Doug is a retired software engineer and developer and has been doing digital photography for nearly 20 years. Before that he was involved with film-based photography, starting as a teen  and continuing well into his twenties. In the early eighties he photographed sports at the University of Arizona, where he worked as a darkroom tech and photographer. He also photographed weddings professionally to help fund college. For personal enjoyment he photographed landscapes and friends while out hiking.

Doug co-chaired and chaired the Los Alamos Photography Club and the Los Alamos Adobe Users Group for many years and is currently an active member of the Pagosa Springs Photography Club in Colorado.
